The JVFB Purchases back it's original 1948 GMC Pumper!
After
many years of speculation and searching, may phone calls and a couple of wild
goose chases, the JVFB finally located the whereabouts of Jasper's original 1948
GMC Pump Truck. It
was
first found several years ago in BC, at a dairy farm. It was not living a
glamorous life, sometimes being used as a billboard holder, and mostly just
weathering away. It took several attempts to convince the owners that they
should sell it back to us so we could restore it, and finally in the summer of
2002 they gave in! The Brigade voted a resounding YES to purchasing it, and our
local Trans Mountain Pipeline pumping station offered the
use
of their tractor and trailer unit to pick it up. Scott Cantley, a Trans Mountain
employee and JVFB Firefighter, and Captain Marven Garford drove down and picked
up our long lost apparatus.
After a two day driving marathon, it was finally home again!

Now that it is here, the tender job of restoring it begins! It is graciously
being stored at the Trans Mountain Compound while we look for a place to
permanently keep it. We'll post many more pictures as they become available
Up and Running!
After
a complete check out, an oil change and a little TLC, the old girl was up and
running! To quote Fire Chief Greg Van Tighem " It purr's like a kitten"!
