As with any community, certain events standout in history. Major fires,
accidents or epidemics can often change the way we evolve and develop. They
often cause us to re-evaluate how we build, respond and plan in the future.
Jasper has had several large fires which are memorable for different reasons.
For some it's because of the sheer size of the event, and others for the
devastation they caused. Here is a few of our more memorable events:
Jasper Park Lodge Outlook Cabin - Nov. 9th 2000
During this late night blaze, the then unoccupied Outlook Cabin was
destroyed. This was a large dollar loss fire which has Historical significance
due to the fact that the cabin was originally constructed in 1930 and had hosted
many famous people. King George the VI and Queen Elizabeth stayed in this cabin
in there 1939 tour of Canada.
